OUR MISSION

Welcome to Poly in Dallas! I am a practicing attorney and have a background in sociology and I enjoy the study of group structure/community dynamics within the confines of or outside of societal norms. My background fuels my interest in community-building and informs my understanding of the power of community.  I have been polyamorous and in different relationship dynamics over the years, but, just like many of you, I am still learning.

I created PID a little less than a year ago after noticing a lot of Black non-monogamous couples looking for connections on dating apps, and even being one of those people myself at one point. I was curious about whether there was a place in the real world where we could all meet likeminded people and build community, rather than having to rely on swiping left or right on profiles on the internet. In November of 2024, I made an instagram page teasing poly events and people showed interest, so I ran with it. Our first event was a happy hour mixer later that month and I learned very early on that this group was necessary and it quickly became a labor of love.

Through trial and error, I worked to reach the more than 1,000 accounts that now follow the page on IG and the 200+ individual community members who have come out to our events.

I truly love our community and what it has become. Everyone has been kind and welcoming, which is a testament to the type of community we are. Our members have exhibited maturity, openness, and genuine interest in meeting new people and learning about their perspectives on non-monogamy which I think says a lot about who we are.

PID is a community, not a business. The goal isn’t to make money, but to create opportunities for community development and personal growth. As Black people, we need all the community we can get, and we deserve a place where we can let our hair down and be ourselves outside of the societal norms that have been forced upon us. We get to write our own stories, lead our own lives, and create our own relationship models that work for us.

Join me in continuing to build this beautiful Poly in Dallas community!

Warmly & in Solidarity,

Shannen
